European record for referee Tulga

(pps/ww) Turkish referee Erhan Tulga has officiated two matches on the first four days of the 29th European Water Polo Championships here in Zagreb, setting up a new European record in refereeing men´s and women´s matches. Since his debut at the 1995 European Championships in Vienna, Austria he has officiated at altogether 42 matches, 34 men´s and 8 women´s games.

Close results and Russian scoring festival in women´s openers
The women´s tournament of the 2010 European Water Polo Championships in Zagreb, Croatia started with three close matches. In Group A Olympic champion Netherlands fell to Hungary after a poor match, 9-8, while Spain gained a 12-10 run-away victory against Germany in the opening of the eight-nation-competition. In the matches of Group A World Cup bronze medallist Greece beat Italy 7-5, but had come from behind. The reigning title-holders from Russia downed newcomer Croatia, 28-3. Action will continue after a rest day on 2 September.» more
