Olympic champion Italy has nominated 15 players for the LEN Olympic Games Qualification Tournament to be held 19-26 August in Kirishi, Russia. Head coach Mauro Maugeri is facing visible problems, as two of the remaining 2004 Olympic champions are injured. Martina Miceli had broken her left hand last month, Maddalena Musumeci her ring finger. Both players have been nominated, but her appearance in the games is still in doubt.
