The German women´s league was shaken by two pretty spectacular changes, as two of the 13 World Championships participants will play in the Greek league next season: Forward Nina Wengst and Theresa Klein, both from national cup winner SV Bayer Uerdingen of Krefeld, will join Europe´s current number three ANC Glyfada, a club form the south of Athens.

Krefeld-borne Nina Wengst, the top player of local club Bayer Uerdingen, showed a good performance at the recent LEN Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in Kirishi, Russia and was finally hired by Greek officials. The 28-year-old forward was studying in the USA for some years and played for New York AC, but got back in the German national team in 2004. Since then she took part in two World Championships and missed the 2004 Olympic Games by only one lost game against Russia.

Theresa Klein was borne at Chemnitz in the former German Democratic Republic and played for Berlin-based SG Neukölln and Bayer Uerdingen in the German national league. Klein recently got some national fame outside the pool. She was featured in the recent German issue of the American men´s and live-style magazine Playboy, when her picture even appeared on the front page.

Wengst and Klein will be the second and third player to player to join a Greek club. A couple of years ago former German international Nicole Lohmann of Hohenlimburger SV joined Ethnikos Piraeus for one season. So four of 13 World Championships participants on the German side are now playing abroad. Goalkeeper Simone Budde is playing for the Dutch representative PSV Eindhoven, the former substitute goalkeeper Claudia Schönitz from SV Gronau will join OZPC Oldenzaal in the nearby Netherlands.
