The Beauty and the Beast...

Some players have already been injured during the first waterpolo matches of the 13th FINA Swimming World Championships here in Rome, Italy. The most impressive eye catcher is the young Dutch player Jantien Cabout up to now. The young player of 2008 European Champions Cup semi-finalist ZVL Leiden broke her nose for the fifth time within three years. Now the sister of 2008 Olympic gold medallist Mieke Cabout is wearing a terrifying black mask during the matches.

But other players have been injured as well. On Tuesday, Italy´s Elisa Casanov suffered a cut under her left eye in the early beginnings of the crucial match against World´s number four Hungary. The powerful centre forward just got an adhesive bandage und got back in the game, but the setterosa finally lost 8-5 to the players from Eastern Europe and missed the first place in Group A.

The same happened in men´s waterpolo to Montenegrin top player Boris Zlokovic on Wednesday in the early beginnings of the crucial top match for the first place in Group B, when the European champion played the reigning title-holders from Croatia. The powerful player of Italy´s number CN Posillipo did not get back in the match; observers are now wondering how much this setback influenced Montenegro´s devastating 5-11 loss against the big Adriatic rival.
