The women´s six-nation tournament in Tavira, Portugal was clearly dominated by Europe`s current number seven Germany. Although head coach Bernd Seidensticker had left eight of 13 European Championships participants at home, his team outscored all five opponents from the “B” category by at least eight goals. The second place at the LEN sanctioned tournament in the Algarve region was taken by Great Britain followed by home team Portuga.

In general the participating teams had nominated pretty young teams for different reasons. Some nations want to build up new teams, which are to be more competitive in the future. Germany as the only participant in the upcoming FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australian wanted to check the capabilities of young back-up players to get more alternatives on the bench. Germany’s most experienced player, hole-man Nina Wengst from national vice-champion Bayer Uerdingen was awarded Tournament MVP and took the scorers crown.
