In Australia the Fremantle Mariners turned the tables on UNSW Wests Magpies in a men´s National Water Polo League match at the UNSW Pool here last night. The Mariners´ power and strength at the two-metre zone proved critical as the Mariners turned a 9-8 Wednesday loss into a 12-7 winning result in the return match.

Olympian Jamie Beadsworth dominated centre forward while fellow international Tim Cleland pushed the Magpies´ hole men to the five-metre line, nullifying the attack.
This left the way clear for Aaron Younger (5) and Daniel Lawrence (4) to net goals.
The initial break came in the second quarter when Fremantle went 7-4 ahead, extending the lead to 11-4 at the final break.

National junior women´s captain Zoe Arancini scored four goals as the No 4 Longmont Fremantle Marlins beat UNSW Killer Whales 14-8. The Marlins won the first and third periods 4-1 and squared the second and fourth 3-3. Victorian Tigers´ chances of closing the gap on ladder leaders Fremantle Mariners took a setback with a 12-9 loss to last year´s runners-up, Drummoyne Devils at Drummoyne.

The second-ranked Tigers started losing ground in the second period when the Devils slammed in three goals in just over a minute to lead 7-4 at halftime — a lead the Tigers could not breach. Great Britain international Scott Carpenter fired home five goals for the Tigers but Devils captain Samuele Avallone´s four goals, including two in the quickfire hat-trick, proved the difference. With the Magpies losing to Fremantle, the Devils move up one spot to fourth place on the ladder.

The Tigers women blazed home 5-0 in the second half of their encounter with Drummoyne, winning 12-7. A busy second quarter saw nine goals with four of them coming from United States international Lauren Silver for the home team.
