Belgrade to host IX European Youth Olympic Festival |

International waterpolo will come back to Belgrade, Serbia in 2007 as part of a huge multi-sport event. The organiser of the 2006 European Championships will also be the hosting city of the IX European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), which will be held 21-28 July 2007. EYOF is the largest event to be organised in Europe for young athletes and it is supported by the European National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee. The competitions will include 11 sports with 2500 to 3000 participants in total, including men´s waterpolo as one of four team sports.

Eight nations are reported to take part in the EYOF waterpolo tournament, which is scheduled 23-27 July. In this competition the athletes are coming from the age groups 1991 and 1992. This will also be the relevant age groups at the 2009 European Youth Championships. Some of the athletes already played a big LEN tournament this summer in Obrenovac, Serbia. The waterpolo matches will be played in the South of the capital at Banjica Sports Centre, the home pool of top club Partizan “Raiffeisen” Belgrade. In 1973 a number of water polo matches of the first FINA World Championships were played here. Last month the women´s tournament of the 2006 European Championships was held in the outdoor-pool. The famous Tasmajdan Swimming Centre, venue of the men´s tournament of the European Championships, will be reserved to the EYOF swimming competitions.
