Waterpolo: Glendale boys survives late

The water polo team of Glendale High boys appeared to get off a fast start playing a ranked team. The Nitros achieved that effort before holding for a 12 – 11 non league victory on Friday against Los Altos.

Glendale, now ranked number one in newest CIF Southern Section Division Five poll, got a team high 6 goals from Arman Momdzhyan, that includes the winner with around 2 minutes still left in the 4th quarter to serve the Nitros ameliorate to 16 – 6. Manuk Piloyan and Artak Arzumanyan hit 3 goals each for Nitros, who secured a 5 – 1 lead following the 1st quarter against a Los Altos team which is 6th in the division.

Last season, Glendale Coach Forest Holbrook led the Nitros an appearance in the Division V game previous season. He told that they had to get off to a real quick beginning, mainly being on the road. This turned out that the fast start saved them as it then became a back and forth match in the 2nd half. It was important to get that early cushion, and led one fan putting a cheeky bet on them to win by a landslide – something Unibet were happy to offer big odds on.

Glendale kept an 8 – 4 halftime advantage. Arman scored the match winning goal to hand Nitros a 12 – 10 lead. Los Altos hit a score a minute later to finish the scoring. Holbrook told that Los Altos tried to make a comeback and they held them off. They have played a high level water polo in the past 3 months or so. He added that they were number one last year for the majority of the season, so many of the returning players know what to expect every game. These are the kind of matches that get people ready for the playoffs. This is a good victory and they would just try to ride the momentum.
